Space Cowboys Homestand Closes With 6-3 Loss

(SUGAR LAND, Texas) – The Sugar Land Space Cowboys finished out their first homestand of the season with a 6-3 loss to the Round Rock Express on Sunday afternoon at Constellation Field.

The Space Cowboys jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the fourth on an RBI triple from JJ Matijevic, RBI double from Corey Julks and RBI single from Alex De Goti.

Matijevic’s triple nearly cleared wall in right-center, traveling 400 feet and leaving his bat at 101 mph. He finished the night 2-for-4 with a double and a triple and leads the Space Cowboys with nine RBI on the season.

JP France made his third start of the year and struck out five batters while allowing just one run through four innings. France has struck out 13 batters and allowed just two runs (one earned) through his last two starts (8 IP).

Round Rock tied the game in the sixth on a two-run single from Nick Tanielu. Matt Carpenter put the Express in the lead for good with a three-run homer in the ninth.

Following a Monday off day, the Space Cowboys will head to the West Coast to begin a six-game series against the Tacoma Rainiers. Jonathan Bermudez is set to start the opener for the Space Cowboys at 8:05 p.m. CT on Tuesday, with Tacoma sending Asher Wojciechowski to the mound.
