Space Cowboy belts 477-ft HR to ... new galaxy?

Pedro León did something must-see with a 69.7 mph curveball Saturday night for Triple-A Sugar Land.

The No. 5 Astros prospect connected on the slow offspeed pitch, turning it into a 111.2 mph laser that went clear out of Las Vegas Ballpark. Traveling 477 feet, it not only left the stadium, but it also stacks up as the fifth-longest Triple-A home run of the season. The right-handed bat did the damage off of right-handed Athletics farmhand Zach Neal.

It was León’s 15th tater of the season, and it drove in a pair.

León continues to enjoy a solid 2023 Triple-A campaign, having entered the night with a .791 OPS in 86 games. The home run extends his hitting streak to five games, and the second baseman/center fielder has hit safely in nine of his last 10 contests. He’s smoked three home runs during that time and driven in eight.

Saturday’s tape-measure shot against the Aviators is the latest major accomplishment that León has added to his resume this season, as he also hit for the cycle on June 24. The 25-year-old is now just two dingers away from matching his professional career high in roundtrippers that he set last year with Sugar Land.
