Space Cowboys Spin Sixth Shutout Of Season In 1-0 Blanking Of Round Rock

Burrows, McLoughlin and Nezuh Combine For Scoreless Effort

Behind RHP Mike Burrows’ scoreless rehab outing and four shutout innings from RHP Jackson Nezuh, the Sugar Land Space Cowboys defeated the Round Rock Express 1-0 on Friday night at Dell Diamond.

Burrows made his first rehab appearance since being placed on the injured list with right elbow neuritis and retired the first six batters he faced. After Orlando Martinez and John Taylor each singled in the bottom of the third, Burrows issued his only walk of the night to load the bases. The right-hander responded by inducing a ground ball to escape the jam without allowing a run.

Burrows allowed just one more hit over the remainder of his outing, tossing 4.1 scoreless innings while striking out three.

RHP Trey McLoughlin took over in the bottom of the fifth with one runner on and one out and struck out both batters he faced to keep Round Rock off the scoreboard and preserve a scoreless contest heading to the sixth.

The Space Cowboys broke through in the top of the seventh. Raynel Delgado led off the inning with a double before advancing to third on a throwing error by RHP Ryan Lobus. Pascanel Ferreras followed with a walk to put runners on the corners before Joey Loperfido lifted a deep fly ball to right field for a sacrifice fly, bringing Delgado home to give Sugar Land a 1-0 lead.

Nezuh took over in the sixth and kept the Express off the board the rest of the way. Nezuh fired 4.0 scoreless innings, allowing just two hits while striking out four. The right-hander worked around a baserunner in the ninth, striking out two before forcing a flyout to secure the shutout.

NOTABLE:

  • RHP Mike Burrows made his first rehab appearance after being placed on the Injured List on July 7 with right elbow neuritis. Burrows tossed 4.1 scoreless innings, allowing three hits while walking one and striking out three. He threw 67 pitches, 43 for strikes, and topped out at 97.1 mph.
  • CJ Alexander extended his hitting streak to 11 games, going 1-for-3 on Friday night. Alexander has recorded seven hits this week, tying Michael Stefanic for the most hits in the Pacific Coast League this week. In the first four games against Round Rock, Alexander is 7-for-16 with three doubles, two home runs, seven RBI, a walk and two runs scored.
  • Raynel Delgado went 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored on Friday night. Over the Space Cowboys’ current 12-game road trip, dating back to August 4, Delgado has tallied 16 hits, tied with Jonah Cox and Alek Thomas for the most in the Pacific Coast League during that span. Delgado is 16-for-47 with four doubles, a triple, 11 RBI, three walks and nine runs scored on the trip.
  • The Sugar Land pitching staff has not allowed a run over its last 15.0 innings, dating back to the bottom of the third inning on August 14 at Round Rock, when Keyber Rodriguez hit a one-out home run.
  • Friday night marked Sugar Land’s first 1-0 win since May 15, 2025 vs. Reno when the Space Cowboys won 1-0 in 10 innings. It also marked Sugar Land’s first shutout victory since July 25, when the Space Cowboys shut out Nashville in game one of a doubleheader.

Sugar Land will look to secure a series win on Saturday night. RHP Bryce Mayer will take the mound for the Space Cowboys while the Express starter has yet to be announced.
