Spangenberg homer not enough for Memphis against Jacksonville 

Redbirds finish game in under two hours, shortest game of season

MEMPHIS, TN – The Memphis Redbirds dropped game three of a six-game series with the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp at AutoZone Park on Thursday night by a final score of 5-1.

Jacksonville immediately snagged the lead, getting the first four in the lineup to score on back-to-back home runs. Memphis pitching would then slow the Jumbo Shrimp down and did not allow a run until the ninth.

The Redbirds offense struggled against Jacksonville pitching, tallying three hits and one run. The lone run was scored on a second baseman Cory Spangenberg home run to lead off the bottom of the third inning, his eighth blast of the season.

Starting pitcher Garrett Williams earned the loss in his first Triple-A appearance of the season. The left-handed pitcher finished four innings, striking out five batters.

The Memphis Redbirds (42-33) return to AutoZone Park for game three of a six-game series against the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (40-35) for a 7:05 p.m. CDT first pitch on Friday, July 1.
