MANCHESTER, N.H. (July 5, 2022) – The Toronto Blue Jays announced Tuesday that first baseman Spencer Horwitz has been promoted from the New Hampshire Fisher Cats to Triple-A Buffalo.

Horwitz was named Eastern League Player of the Week on June 13, after hitting a pair of home runs in the six-game road series at Binghamton. He had hits in 13 consecutive games from June 2-17 and finished the month with a .370 batting average, fourth among all Double-A players in June. Horwitz went 5-for-6 on July 1 at Portland with a home run, two doubles, five RBIs, and five runs scored.

At the time of his promotion, Horwitz is currently among the Eastern League leaders in batting average (.297, 4th), OPS (.930, 4th), doubles (19, tied-4th), walks (43, tied-5th), and runs scored (46, tied-4th). This is the first time he has been promoted to Triple-A in his professional career.

The Timonium, Md., native was selected by the Blue Jays in the 24th round of the 2019 MLB Draft out of Radford University. Horwitz is currently the No. 30 prospect in the organization, according to MLB Pipeline.

In a corresponding move, right-handed pitcher Gabriel Ponce has returned to the Fisher Cats from Buffalo. Ponce made 14 relief appearances with New Hampshire earlier this season. Additionally, right-handed pitcher Trent Palmer has been placed on the 7-day injured list, retroactive to July 4.

The Fisher Cats continue a six-game home series against the Hartford Yard Goats Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. Tickets for all remaining home games at Delta Dental Stadium are available at NHFisherCats.com, via email at [email protected], by phone at (603) 641-2005, or in-person at the Fisher Cats box office on 1 Line Drive in Manchester.
