It's not every day that a Cy Young winner comes to LeLacheur Park but that's exactly what the Spinners (12-19) were up against Saturday night.
2015 Cy Young and two-time All-Star Dallas Keuchel took the mound for the Tri-City ValleyCats (13-18) on a rehab start. In five innings of work, he fanned five, allowed three hits, and surrendered an earned run. It wasn't the first time he pitched at LeLacheur Park however, Keuchel made his professional debut at LeLacheur Park for the ValleyCats back in 2009.
The Spinners rolled out Red Sox first-round draft pick Tanner Houck to make his second start of the season. In 1.1 innings, he surrendered an earned run, struck out one, and walked a man. Through his first two starts, Houck has only thrown 2.1 innings as he adjusts to pro ball.
He was relieved by Durin O'Linger in the top of the second who went on to throw 4.2 innings of work. With seven strikeouts out of the bullpen, he gave up a pair of earned runs, four hits, and three walks.
The Spinners got on the board in the bottom of the fifth after Yoan Aybar ripped a leadoff double to right. Nick Sciortino then drove him in with an RBI single up the middle off Dallas Keuchel to make it a 2-1 ball game.
Jared Oliver and Joan Martinez closed out the game with three innings of relief with each pitcher giving up an earned run to make it a 5-1 ball game.
With the loss, the Spinners fall to the bottom of the Stedler Division as they hit the road for a three-game trip to Staten Island to take on the Yankees.
