The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre fell 6-0 to the St. Paul Saints on Tuesday night. The team mustered seven hits but could not plate a run on the cold and windy night.
The Saints got on the board early scoring in the first. Matt Wallner led off with a walk. Back-to-back singles from Alex Kirilloff and Chris Williams loaded the bases and a grand slam off the bat of Mark Contreras brought everyone home. St. Paul led 4-0.
The home team tacked on two more in the fifth thanks to three hits and two walks. The 6-0 advantage for the Saints held to the end.
Randy Vasquez (L, 0-2) tossed 4.2 innings of work on 92 pitches. The righty struck out a season-high seven batters. After allowing a grand slam in the first, he settled in for three consecutive 1-2-3 frames. In the fifth two runs crossed the plate tracking back to his line. Aaron McGarity let up an inherited run, but pitched an inning and a third scoreless. Barrett Loseke and D.J. Snelten tossed a clean frame each.
Bailey Ober (W, 2-1) got the start throwing five scoreless frames and striking out six. He allowed just three hits and a walk. Patrick Murphy gave up two hits in the sixth but put up a zero on the scoreboard. Cody Laweryson and Dereck Rodriguez each had a clean inning. Brock Stewart loaded the bases in the ninth but slammed the door shut without a run across.
The RailRiders take on the Saints tomorrow at CHS Field. Righty Ryan Weber gets the ball for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre against Aaron Sanchez with a 7:37 P.M. (EST) first pitch.
