STOCKON, CA – Major League Baseball (MLB) has informed Minor League Baseball (MiLB) that it will not be providing its affiliated Minor League teams with players for the 2020 season. As a result, there will not be a MiLB season including the California League. This marks the first year since 1977 where there will be no professional baseball played in Stockton.

“We are disappointed by the news from MiLB that we will not be able to provide our fans and the Stockton community with quality baseball and family-friendly entertainment that they have come to expect at Banner Island Ballpark in 2020.” Ports President Pat Filippone said. “Our focus will now shift into providing support to the Stockton community during this unprecedented time and looking forward to preparing for the best season possible in 2021. Our thoughts will continue to remain with those affected by the pandemic and those working on the front lines. We would also like to sincerely thank all of our partners, ticket holders, fans, and the community for their continued support of the Stockton Ports.”

“These are unprecedented times for our country and our organization as this is the first time in our history that we’ve had a summer without Minor League Baseball played,” said Minor League Baseball President & CEO Pat O’Conner. “While this is a sad day for many, this announcement removes the uncertainty surrounding the 2020 season and allows our teams to begin planning for an exciting 2021 season of affordable family entertainment.”

The Stockton Ports staff will begin directly contacting all fans who have purchased tickets, ticket plans, or group outings for the 2020 season next week, to provide additional information. The Stockton Ports will continue to remain focused on being a proud partner to the Stockton community. Banner Island Ballpark and the Ports’ front office will remain closed to the public.
