PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. (May 2, 2018) - All nine Charlotte Stone Crabs hitters picked up hits Wednesday in their 13-3 win over the St. Lucie Mets at Charlotte Sports Park.
The Stone Crabs (12-14) broke double digits for the sixth time this season, collecting 15 hits to even the series with St. Lucie (11-14).
Charlotte got the scoring going right away against Mets starter Gabriel Llanes (2-3). Lucius Fox led off the bottom of the first with a walk before stealing second. With one out, Robbie Tenerowicz singled to right to score Fox and make it 1-0. After a Nate Lowe walk, Jesús Sánchez grounded a ball to second that was misplayed and rolled into right field. That brought home Tenerowicz and pushed runners to the corners. The next batter was David Rodríguez , who drove home Lowe on a sacrifice fly to make the score 3-0 Stone Crabs.
With the Crabs still up by three in the bottom of the fourth, Tristan Gray grounded a hit to center before Kevin Padlo did the same. Miles Mastrobuoni then pulled a single to right to score Gray and make it 5-1 Charlotte. After another Fox single loaded the bases, Josh Lowe hit into a force out, bringing in Padlo to bring the count to 6-1.
With men at the corners and one out, Tenerowicz ripped a single into left to make it 7-1. Nate Lowe then lined a single to center to plate Josh and extend the lead to 8-1. After a pitching change, Sanchez singled to the gap in left center to bring home two more and cap the inning at 10-1.
Stone Crabs starting pitcher Mikey York (3-2) turned in the team's third quality start of the season, allowing three runs (two earned) on three hits over six innings. He struck out four and walked two.
Nate Lowe added three more RBI in the fifth on a bases-clearing double before the Charlotte bullpen notched three scoreless innings to finish off the win.
The Stone Crabs will look to win the series Thursday night at 6:35 p.m. Willy Ortiz (3-0, 2.70) will make the start for Charlotte against Harol Gonzalez (0-2, 4.74) of St. Lucie. Coverage starts at 6:20 p.m. on the Stone Crabs Baseball Network.
