PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (July 29, 2018) - The Charlotte Stone Crabs used ten hits and nine walks to mash their way to a 10-2 win Sunday over the St. Lucie Mets at First Data Field.
Kevin Padlo led the effort for the Stone Crabs (54-47, 20-14), going 3-for-5 with a double and a three-run home run.
The win clinched the series for Charlotte and brought them to their high-water mark of the year at seven games above five-hundred.
Trailing 1-0 in the top of the third, Robbie Tenerowicz walked before Tristan Gray drove him home with a double off the wall in right. After another walk, Jake Fraley doubled to right to give the Stone Crabs a 2-1 lead. Rene Pinto then scored on a groundout to make it 3-1 Charlotte.
Still up by that margin in the fourth, Padlo doubled to left before a walk and a sacrifice bunt put runners at second and third with one out. Tenerowicz then pulled a two-run double over the third base bag to extend the lead to 5-1. The Stone Crabs added two more runs on a pair of wild pitches and a baserunning play to make it 7-1.
After the Mets got a run back to make it 7-2, the first two Stone Crabs reached in the fifth. After a 51-minute rain delay, Padlo crushed the first pitch well over the left field wall to extend the Charlotte lead to 10-2.
Right-hander Jose Disla (2-0) worked three scoreless innings to get the win.
The Stone Crabs will start a four-game series with the Florida Fire Frogs by playing a doubleheader beginning at 5 p.m. on Tuesday. Coverage starts at 4:45 p.m. on the Stone Crabs Baseball Network.
