PAPILLION, Nebraska - The Round Rock Express (23-29) overcame an early 6-1 deficit, but the relentless Omaha Storm Chasers (27-23) fought back to claim a 10-8 victory on Monday afternoon at Werner Park. The win was Omaha's sixth straight over Round Rock.
Express RHP Brady Dragmire (0-3, 5.23) suffered the loss after allowing four runs on four hits and a pair of walks in 2.2 innings of relief. Rehabbing Kansas City Royals LHP Scott Alexander (1-0, 9.00) collected the win despite surrendering three runs on four hits in the sixth inning.
Rehabbing Texas Rangers RHP Tyson Ross struggled in 3.1 innings of work. The righty allowed six runs on six hits and five walks while striking out just two. In his second rehab start with the team, Ross threw 86 pitches with 39 landing in the strike zone.
Just like last night, Round Rock scored a run in the second inning before the Storm Chasers unloaded. Today it was 2B Josh Wilson blasting a solo home run prior to Omaha dropping a five-spot in the bottom of the frame. The inning began precariously as rehabbing Royals RF Hunter Dozier dropped a double to shallow center field that Express CF Drew Stubbs lost in the sunlight.
Back-to-back singles from DH Frank Schwindel and C Cam Gallagher scored the game-tying run. Ross then walked 3B Garin Cecchini , CF Billy Burns and 2B Dean Anna , forcing in two runs in the process. SS Ramón Torres lined a single to left field to score two more in the next at-bat.
The Storm Chasers tacked on another run in the third as 1B Ryan O'Hearn doubled, took third on a Schwindel single, and scored on an ensuing Gallagher sacrifice fly to deep left field.
Round Rock jumped right back into the game with one swing of the bat in the fifth inning. LF Travis Snider and C Brett Hayes each worked walks before Stubbs launched a three-run homer to deep right field, cutting the Omaha lead to 6-4. The E-Train leveled the contest in the very next frame. DH Brett Nicholas singled, then 3B Jason Martinson smoked a game-tying shot well past the berm in right field, resetting the score at 6-6.
However, another big inning gave Omaha the lead for good. In the sixth, Gallagher walked before singles from Cecchini, Burns and Anna forced in a run and loaded the bases for Torres. The speedy infielder delivered with a two-run double. Dozier poked a sacrifice fly to center field to extend his team's lead to 10-6.
The E-Train continued to fight in the seventh inning as Hayes singled before SS Jurickson Profar recorded Round Rock's fourth home run of the day, a two-run shot that trimmed the deficit to 10-8. Rehabbing Royals LHP Brian Flynn and RHP Al Alburquerque combined to strike out five of the last seven E-Train hitters to preserve the win for Omaha.
Round Rock will look to avoid a series sweep on Monday night. E-Train RHP Anthony Bass (0-0, 3.10) is scheduled to face off against Storm Chasers RHP Christian Binford (3-1, 4.50). First pitch at Werner Park is set for 6:35 p.m.
