Bowie, MD (August 22, 2026) – The Chesapeake Baysox, the Double-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, pitched past the Richmond Flying Squirrels, the Double-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants, in a dramatic 4-3 final Saturday.

Chesapeake (26-22, 56-61) took a 4-2 lead into the top of the ninth before Richmond hit a one-out RBI single and threatened for more. With runners at first and second. Baysox right-hander Gerald Ogando then tossed back-to-back strikeouts to strand the Flying Squirrels and seal the Chesapeake win.

Ogando (S, 2) pitched the final two outs to earn the save and give right-handed starter JT Quinn his first Double-A win.

Quinn pitched five innings of two-run ball in his home Baysox debut Saturday. Quinn, the Orioles' No. 14 prospect via MLB.com, retired the first seven batters he faced and earned two strikeouts to no walks.

In the first five games this series against Richmond, Chesapeake starters have pitched to a 2.00 ERA (six earned runs across 27 innings) with 21 strikeouts to 6 walks.

The Baysox got on the board first with back-to-back RBI doubles in a two-run third inning. Tavian Josenberger singled and scored from first on a Fernando Peguero RBI double to left field. On the next pitch, Peguero came home on a Wehiwa Aloy two-bagger that one-hopped the left field wall.

Baysox right-hander Chrsitian Herberholz relieved Quinn (W, 1-0) in the sixth. Herberholz tossed two scoreless innings that included him facing two above the minimum and striking out three batters.

The Baysox went back ahead in the fifth when Peguero hit his second RBI extra-base hit in as many plate appearances. Peguero lifted his third Double-A home run of the year, a solo shot to left center field, for a 3-2 lead.

Chesapeake doubled its lead in the seventh. Against Richmond lefty starter Charlie McDaniel (L, 3-3), Colin Tuft led off the inning by barreling up his first Double-A home run to left field for a 4-2 advantage.

Tuft, who was promoted to Chesapeake from High-A Frederick earlier this month, is batting .364 (4-for-11) with the home run and two RBI in four games against Richmond this week.

Baysox righty Jeisson Cabrera relieved Herberholz in the eighth and threw a scoreless inning before coming back out for the ninth. Cabrera pitched back-to-back, one-out walks before he was relieved by Ogando.

On the fist batter he faced, Ogando gave up a Zane Zielinski RBI single for the 4-3 final score before earning the back-to-back strikeouts.

Chesapeake hosts the final of six games against Richmond Sunday. The Baysox are scheduled to start left-hander Sebastian Gongora (9-6, 3.91 ERA) against Flying Squirrels left-hander Greg Farone (5-10 5.68 ERA). First pitch Sunday is set for 1:05 pm from Prince George’s Stadium.
