VANCOUVER, BC – A sterling start from Hunter Gregory and a two-run shot from Glenn Santiago in the seventh weren’t enough for the Canadians in a 4-3 loss to the Hillsboro Hops [D-Backs] in ten innings on Friday at Rogers Field at Nat Bailey Stadium

Gregory went five scoreless frames, scattered three hits, didn’t walk a batter and struck out four, but his effort was matched by Hops hurler Jose Cabrera who went five and didn’t allow a hit.

Vancouver got their first knock in the sixth then spoiled the shutout in the seventh. With Gabby Martinez aboard after a single to start the stanza, Glenn Santiago tattooed a two-run shot to left that made it 2-0 C’s.

Hillsboro answered right back for the second consecutive game. A one-out single by Juan Corniel that was nearly caught on a dive by Santiago in left put a man on for Jack Hurley, whose third hit of the afternoon was an opposite field two-run homer to even the score at two.

After nine complete, the Hops took the lead for the first time in the top of the tenth when Oyen, AB native Gavin Logan launched a go-ahead two-run homer to put the Baby Snakes in front 4-2. Vancouver scratched across a run on an RBI single from Dasan Brown in the home half to move the tying run to third, but the C’s failed to make any more magic happen in a 4-3 loss.

With the defeat, Vancouver has lost three in a row and is in danger of losing their second consecutive home series. They are 3-7 at home since the final homestand of the year began last week and are 6-10 in their last 16.

The Canadians will look to bounce back Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. Coverage is available on the C’s Broadcast Network: CanadiansBaseball.com, Sportsnet, Bally Live and the MiLB First Pitch App.
