LAKEWOOD, NJ - Ranger Suárez threw seven scoreless innings, capping a magnificent homestand, and lead the BlueClaws to a 2-0 win over Hagerstown on Sunday at FirstEnergy Park.
Suarez (6-2) retired the first 23 hitters he faced on Monday and retired the first 13 he faced today before a Jakson Reetz single in the fifth. However, Suarez did not allow a run in either start and went 2-0 over the homestand, scattering just four hits with one walk and 14 strikeouts, including five on Sunday.
The win puts the BlueClaws at 4-7/44-37 while the Suns fall to 8-3/46-34. Lakewood has taken the last two games after Hagerstown won the series opener on Friday night.
The BlueClaws opened the scoring in the first inning on a SAC fly by Darick Hall, scoring Arquimedes Gamboa, and neither team scored again until the eighth inning.
Hagerstown and Lakewood each threatened in the seventh, but each team left two on base to end the inning, the final innings for each starting pitcher.
Suns starter Sterling Sharp (4-6) went seven, allowing one run on six hits but took the loss.
Trevor Bettencourt came on for the BlueClaws in the eighth inning and after allowing a lead-off single, got the next three, including Amdlem Corredor with the tying run on second base to end the inning.
Hall drove in another run, bringing in Daniel Brito on an RBI single off Hayden Howard in the eighth for his league-leading 60th RBI of the season. Hall, who missed two weeks in April, has 56 RBIs since May 1st, more than anyone else in Minor League Baseball over that period.
Mickey Moniak went 2-4 for the BlueClaws in the win.
The teams finish their series on Monday night at 7:05 pm. LHP Nick Fanti (5-1) starts for Lakewood opposite LHP McKenzie Mills (9-2).
