Surge secure victory in the ninth

Wichita benefited from mistakes made by Midland in the top of the third. Starting RockHounds pitcher Jack Perkins hit Alerick Soularie with a pitch and loaded the bases. DaShawn Keirsey Jr. then hit a short bouncing ball towards the pitching mound and Jake Rucker was able to score on a missed catch by the catcher. Perkins then walked another runner with the bases loaded forcing another run to score for the Surge.
In the bottom of the fourth the RockHounds took the lead and responded with three runs of their own. Greg Deichmann and Lazaro Armenteros both had RBIs. Surge starting pitcher David Festa also walked a batter with the bases loaded that forced a run to score for the RockHounds.
Brooks Lee drove in a run for the Wind Surge in the top of the fifth. He earned his league leading 23rd double of the season when he crushed a ball off the right field wall that scored a runner. Fajardo got an RBI on a line drive to center field. Midland pitching walked Seth Gray with the bases loaded for yet another unearned run for the Surge.
Two home runs for Midland tied up the score leading into the ninth inning. Brett Harris hit a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth and Deichmann hit a solo homer in the bottom of the eighth.
The Wind Surge got to work again in the top of the ninth. Fajardo struck a ball into right field for a two RBI single and the lead. Jake Rucker extended the lead with a sacrifice fly into center field that was deep enough to score a run.
Both teams struggled to capitalize with men on base. Wichita hit 2-13 with men on base and Midland hit 2-7 with men on base.
Starting pitcher Festa for Wichita pitched four and one third innings, gave up four runs on six hits and struck out seven batters. Perkins for the RockHounds pitched four and two thirds innings, gave up five runs on six hits and struck out six batters. Francis Peguero got a blown save and a win for Wichita.
The Wichita Wind Surge improve to 26-34 and the Midland RockHounds fall to 27-34.
NOTES – DaShawn Keirsey, Jr extended his hitting streak to eight games. The Wind Surge offense has scored seven or more runs in five consecutive games
