North Little Rock, AR-Chuck Taylor's walk-off single in the bottom of the 12th inning scored Ryan Scott sending the Arkansas Travelers to their first extra-inning victory of the season, 3-2, over the Corpus Christi Hooks on Sunday at Dickey-Stephens Park.
Taylor's base hit gave the Travs their only lead of the game. Arkansas trailed by two early after the Hooks scored in the second and third innings. They would tie it in the fifth, scoring twice on two hits, a walk and two errors. With the bases loaded and one out, Ryan Scott greeted reliever Brock Dykxhoorn with an RBI single to put the Travs on the board. Ian Miller then followed with a one-hopper to the mound that was mishandled allowing the tying run to score. Arkansas left the bases loaded though, unable to add on. Neither team then scored again until the final inning.
Scott, in his first game in Double-A, led off the 12th with a single off Riley Farrell and moved to second on Adam Law's one out walk. Taylor then ripped a hard two-hopper past the first baseman for the win. Farrell (0-2) took the loss for the Hooks. Kyle Hunter (1-0), who pitched a scoreless top of the 12th, was the winning pitcher.
All the Travs who took the mound threw well though. Starter Tyler Herb pitched a stellar seven innings surrendering only the two runs on just four hits. Peter Tago and Thyago Vieira then each worked a pair of scoreless innings before Hunter.
Arkansas looks to keep rolling in game two of the series on Monday night as they send right-hander Lindsey Caughel (4-7, 5.42) to the mound against righty Cy Sneed (7-4, 5.23). First pitch at Dickey-Stephens Park is set for 7:10 and the game will be broadcast on the Sports Animal 920, the First Pitch App, TuneIn radio and milb.tv.
