The Colorado Springs Sky Sox have announced that LHP Wei-Chung Wang has been named the Sky Sox Pitcher of the Month, while outfielder Brett Phillips and infielder Garrett Cooper have been named Co-Players of the Month, for the month of May.

Coming out of the bullpen, Wang has been a consistent shutdown presence for the Sox in relief. During the month of May alone, the lefty out of Taiwan has recorded a 3-0 record with a 1.72 ERA, dropping his overall earned run average to 2.22-the lowest mark of the pitching staff. Wang earned wins on the road at El Paso and Nashville, as well as his first win at home against New Orleans, doing so while allowing just three earned runs and striking out 14 batters in 15.2 innings this month.

Phillips enjoyed a productive month after posting a .304 average during the year's fifth month, scoring 23 runs and driving in 24 runs in May alone. Phillips leads the Sox in slugging percentage entering the June 1 contest at Oklahoma City (.588), hitting 24 extra-base hits (including a team-high four triples and 10 home runs). The outfielder has recorded eight multi-hit games in May, including hitting safely in seven of his last 10 games.

Cooper, meanwhile, receives monthly honors for the second straight month after hitting a blistering .384 to top his April mark of .320. Despite missing about a week on the disabled list, Cooper still managed to record 33 hits in 22 games, driving in 23 runs and scoring 20 of his own. The first baseman opened the month with a 10-game hitting streak from April 27 to May 8, and also delivered a season-high five-hit game in his second game back May 22 in Albuquerque, eclipsing the four-hit mark he set April 13 in Memphis.
