CLEARWATER, Fla. - The Clearwater Threshers (27-24) swept a twin bill on Thursday night from the visiting St. Lucie Mets (27-24) at BayCare Ballpark, behind strong starting pitching performances and timely home runs. Game 1 had a final score of 5-3, game 2 ended 4-2, the Threshers victorious in both. The two 7-inning games completed the makeup of Tuesday's series-opening rainout.

The opener saw Clearwater starter Jordi Martinez toss 4.2 strong innings, giving up only 2 ER while striking out 4 and walking 1. Lefty Gabriel Yanez (3-0) picked up the win for the home team by blanking St, Lucie in hits and runs with 3 strike outs in 2.1 IP to finish the game.

Third-baseman Kendall Simmons (2) and catcher Juan Aparicio (4) each homered while left-fielder Baron Radcliff knocked 2 hits for 2 RBI in the 5-3 Threshers' win.

RHP Cristian Hernandez twirled a gem for the Threshers on Thursday in the nightcap, going 5 innings, walking none, striking out 9 and only allowing 2 ER. LHP Erubiel Armenta (1-0) finished the final 2 innings and earned the win, allowing 1 hit and no runs on no walks and 5 strikeouts.

The offense in game 2 was provided by home runs from 1B Rixon Wingrove (7) and again, 2B Kendall Simmons (3). 3B Jose Tortolero contributed an RBI-double to the 4-2 Clearwater victory.

The Threshers and Mets continue the inter-division series on Friday night with a 6:30 p.m. first pitch. RHP Mick Abel is scheduled to take the hill for Clearwater on the first of our two Independence Day Celebrations by Budweiser on July 2 & 3. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. on July 2, stay after for the largest fireworks show of the Threshers' season, repeated on Saturday night.
