LANSING, Mich. – In a game that began with an eight-run first inning and ended with Patrick McColl tossing eephuses, the Lansing Lugnuts (24-39) fell to the Fort Wayne TinCaps (26-37), 14-0, in a Father’s Day Sunday matinee at Jackson® Field™.

The TinCaps won four of six in the series, the first leg of a 12-game, 13-day Lugnuts homestand.

Lugnuts starter Shohei Tomioka faced all nine TinCaps batters in the first inning and recorded only one out, departing after allowing two walks and six hits, including an Agustín Ruíz three-run homer.

Fort Wayne starter Robert Gasser enjoyed a much different experience. Gasser walked the first Lugnuts hitter he faced, Drew Swift, and then retired the next 21 batters, pitching seven hitless innings with eight strikeouts.

TinCaps reliever Gabe Morales struck out Lazaro Armenteros opening the home eighth before Gabriel Maciel doubled into the left field corner to break up the no-hit bid.

The Lugnuts added a second hit, a Swift single, in the bottom of the ninth.

The TinCaps in contrast piled up 22 hits against six Nuts pitchers, four hits away from tying the Lugnuts’ franchise record for most hits allowed in a game. McColl, who allowed two runs on three hits and a walk in the ninth, followed Daniel Martinez, who pitched a scoreless eighth with three strikeouts. Martinez was the only Lugnuts pitcher not to allow a run.

The Nuts now welcome in the Beloit Sky Carp, the High-A affiliate of the Miami Marlins, for a six-game series beginning Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit lansinglugnuts.com or call (517) 485-4500.
