TinCaps Win 6-5 in Second Straight 10-Inning Game for Loons, Leiter K’s Seven in Debut

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Fort Wayne TinCaps (50-67) (23-28) had the late game offense tonight getting a 6-5 win over the Great Lakes Loons (65-51) (29-23) on a 76-degree partly cloudy Saturday night at Parkview Field.
- Lamar King Jr. drove in three runs for Fort Wayne, including the game-winning hit a broken-bat RBI single to shallow center field. A Carlos Rodriguez sacrifice bunt put the placed runner Bradley Frye to third base. Reynaldo Yean gave up the run, it was not earned.
- The Loons were unable to plate a run in the tenth with a 1-6 double play lineout ending the frame. Great Lakes scored just one run in their final five half innings on offense. Emil Morales made it 5-4 Loons in the top of the ninth with an RBI double up the left field line. Eduardo Quintero doubled to left field to start the frame. The next three were retired by Abraham Parra who tossed 5.1 innings.
- Fort Wayne pushed the game to extras playing small ball. Facing Matt Lanzendorfer on one day of rest, the TinCaps generated an infield single and bunt single to put two on. The bunt saw first baseman Eduardo Guerrero pivot towards second base to try and get the lead runner. A hit by pitch and wild pitch with the bases loaded tied the game. Fort Wayne stranded two on in the frame.
- Cam Leiter made his Loons debut and struck out seven in 3.1 innings. The right-hander matched his pro ball career-best in punchouts. The Dodgers No. 16 propsect first six outs in High-A were all strikeouts.
- The Loons scored the first four runs of the game. Emil Morales drove in a run with a single to centerfield in the third inning. Great Lakes tallied two in the fourth with a Samuel Munoz 102 mph single to centerfield and a Chuck Davalan sacrifice fly to right field. Eduardo Guerrero extended his hit streak to four games with an RBI knock in the fifth.
- Fort Wayne scored at least one run in the final five frames. Lamar King Jr. provided two two-out RBI hits, one in the sixth and eighth. The sixth was a two-run inning against Isaac Ayon. Bradley Frye lined a ball 109 mph to plate Ryan Wideman to get Fort Wayne on the board. Frye stole second base to position himself for King Jr. Kasen Wells’ single pulled the TinCaps within one in the seventh.
Rounding Things Out
West Michigan lost today. The Whitecaps still have a 1.5 game lead over the Loons in the Midwest League East Division second half standings. Great Lakes has 14 games left this season.
