TROY, NY - Lou Piniella is unable to make it to the Capital Region for his induction to the New York State Baseball Hall of Fame and Saturday’s game at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium, however the ValleyCats are thrilled to welcome a very special pinch-hitter: New York Yankees playoff legend Tino Martinez!

Tino Martinez will be in town for his induction into the New York State Baseball Hall of Fame and will be throwing out the first pitch at Saturday’s game against the Sussex County Miners. Over the course of seven seasons with the Yankees, Tino won 4 World Series championships, won the 1997 Silver Slugger and Home Run Derby, was selected to the 1997 All Star Game, and was named American League Player of the Week four times. While he undoubtedly performed at a high level during the regular season, Tino is known for his playoff heroics. His game-tying 2-run home run in game five of the 2001 World Series at Yankee Stadium after the attacks of September 11, 2001, has been viewed as a moment that helped New York City keep going through the darkest of times.

The ValleyCats look forward to welcoming TIno to “the Joe” and congratulate Martinez and Piniella on their induction into the New York State Baseball Hall of Fame this weekend!
