ONTARIO, Calif. —The Tower Buzzers wrapped up their six-game showdown against Inland Empire with a statement win on Sunday, blasting their way to an 11-1 victory at Ontario Ballpark. The bats were hot, the pitching was lights out, and all of it added up to a commanding finish to the series.
Ontario’s offense showed no mercy, racking up 12 hits and scoring in five different innings. On the mound, Luis Carias, Luis Gamez, and Accimias Morales teamed up to hold the 66ers to just two measly hits. After losing the first two games, the Tower Buzzers stormed back to win four of the last five, taking three straight to close things out.
Kellon Lindsey stole the show at the plate. The 20-year-old tore it up, going a perfect 4-for-4 with a homer, four RBIs, three runs, and two stolen bases. He bumped his average up to .298 and slammed his eighth home run of the year, a two-run shot to center in the second that put Ontario up 4-0 right out of the gate.
Joendry Vargas kept his hot streak alive, too. He finished 3-for-5 with a double and three RBIs, delivering the biggest blow in the sixth—a two-out double that drove in Ching-Hsien Ko and Brendan Tunink to make it 10-1. That brought Vargas to 77 RBIs on the season.
Caleb Johnson chipped in two doubles and crossed the plate twice. Javier Herrera doubled, drove in a run, scored three times, and snatched his ninth stolen base. Conner O’Neal joined the hit parade, picking up a double and a single as Ontario went 6-for-16 with runners in scoring position.
Meanwhile, the pitching just suffocated Inland Empire. Carias set the tone, tossing four strong innings and giving up just one run on one hit with four strikeouts. The only blip was a double by Connor Dykstra in the third, who eventually scored on a groundout.
Then Gamez took the ball and turned it up. The 19-year-old struck out the side in the fifth and kept dealing, tallying nine Ks in his four scoreless innings and giving up only a hit and a walk. He threw 37 strikes on 54 pitches and picked up his second win of the year.
Morales came on in the ninth to wrap it up, striking out two to slam the door.
Inland Empire barely made a dent, finishing with just two hits and going 0-for-4 with runners in scoring position. Ontario’s pitchers racked up 15 strikeouts and walked only two.
Ontario piled up 11 runs without a single hit from the middle three guys in the lineup. The rest of the order just picked up the slack and kept things rolling.
Even after that rough start to the series, Ontario ended strong, outscoring Inland Empire 21-5 over the last three games and closing the set by winning four out of six.
