Corpus Christi, TX—Zach DeLoach drove home the game-winning run in the top of the 8th breaking a tie as the Arkansas Travelers went on to a 7-6 win over the Corpus Christi Hooks in the first game of the series. The Travs had led by as many as five runs only to see the Hooks come back and tie it. Arkansas’ offense drew 11 walks and were hit by two pitches but mustered only six hits in the game. DeLoach, Jake Scheiner and Jake Anchia each had two RBIs for the Travs. Starter Connor Jones gave up only one run over 4.2 innings. Peyton Alford was the winner out of the bullpen with Braden Shipley pitching a perfect eighth inning and Michael Stryffeler tossing a scoreless ninth for his third save.
Moments That Mattered
* With a man on and two out in the eighth, DeLoach lined a ball over the head of the right fielder to score Cade Marlowe with the go-ahead run. DeLoach was then called out at third trying to stretch the hit to a triple.
* Stryffeler worked around two walks in the ninth getting Yainer Diaz to hit into a 5-4-3 double play ending the game.
