PASCO – The Tri-City Dust Devils (29-37 2H, 64-68) finished off their 2026 slate with a 6-2 win Sunday afternoon over the Vancouver Canadians (37-29 2H, 64-68) at Gesa Stadium, securing a split both of the week’s six-game series and the 30-game season series between the two sides.
Though each team mounted at least one threat in the first four innings, neither could dent the scoreboard until the bottom of the 5th when Tri-City struck for four runs. 2B Capri Ortiz led off the inning by legging out an infield single, and DH Adrian Placencia drew a walk to put two on with no one out. CF Jorge Ruiz, finishing off a strong series, then came up with one out and tripled down the right field line, scoring both Ortiz and Placencia for the first two runs of the game. SS Kendrey Maduro and LF Jonny McGill added RBI singles as part of all nine men coming to the plate in the 5th.
Vancouver scored in the top of the 7th on what looked initially like an RBI single to right by 3B Gable Mitchell. Dust Devils RF Kevyn Castillo got to it quickly, though, and threw to second from shallow right field to get the force out at second and hand Mitchell an RBI fielder’s choice instead. The score sat at 4-1 to the home nine going to the bottom of the 8th inning.
There Tri-City grabbed two runs quickly, with Ortiz drawing a walk and then Placencia sending a ball from the right hand side off Canadians lefty Carson Myers over the wall in left field for a two-run homer. The blast made it a 6-1 game and, though Canadians C Ryan Sprock would add a solo homer in the 9th, put the contest out of reach.
Entering after two innings from spot starter Luke Schafer, Yeferson Vargas (4-11) threw three scoreless innings for the win. The righty allowed only one hit, a single by former Dust Devil David Calabrese, but faced the minimum by picking off the outfielder to end the top of the 4th. Vancouver righty Reece Fields (2-2) took the loss by giving up the four runs in the 5th.
DUST DEVILS NOTES
-Adrian Placencia’s home run was the 33rd of his Tri-City career, placing him second in franchise history behind Randy De Jesus (37). Also, the switch-hitting infielder holds the franchise record for games played (331) and walks (233).
-The Dust Devils hit 137 home runs in 2026, the second-highest single season total behind 2025’s record 142 longballs. Of the team’s round-trippers this season, 65 flew over the walls of Gesa Stadium and 72 crossed over the fences of the other Northwest League parks.
-The final day of regular season play saw the Hillsboro Hops score three runs in the bottom of the 9th to stun the Eugene Emeralds 7-6 at Hops Ballpark, while the Spokane Indians closed out their season with a 10-4 victory over the Everett AquaSox at Avista Stadium. Of the entire 2026 season slate, only one game was not played or made up: an August 9 contest between Eugene and Spokane at Avista Stadium canceled due to nearby wildfires degrading the air quality.
WHAT DO WE DO NOW?
Tri-City will take a well-deserved break of roughly seven months or so, retaking the field for the 2027 season opener on Friday, April 2, against Vancouver at Rogers Field at Nat Bailey Stadium. Game times and pitching matchups for the three-game series have not been announced as of press time.
The Dust Devils will return home after the series for a home Opening Night contest on Tuesday, April 6, against the Everett AquaSox at Gesa Stadium. For 2027 ticket information, please visit the official ticket site, dustdevilsbaseball.com.
