The Tri-City Dust Devils (19-22) fell behind early, and Eugene Emeralds (21-18) starter Mason Black held down Dust Devil bats in a 6-1 Emeralds win Sunday night at PK Park.

Tri-City threatened in the 1st, with runners on first and second with two out. A Black strikeout of Osmy Gregorio, though, ended the threat, and the Dust Devils wouldn’t threaten again until the 5th.

Eugene opened the scoring in the bottom of the 1st, getting three runs off of Tri-City starter Ryan Costeiu (1-2). Costeiu struggled at moments, but still racked up seven strikeouts over three innings of work.

The Emeralds added a run in the 3rd and another in the 4th when catcher Patrick Bailey homered to give the Ems a 5-0 lead.

The Dust Devils would get on the board in the 5th. A two-out Straton Podaras single and Jose Guzman reaching as a hit batter put runners again on first and second with two out. Jordyn Adams delivered a single to center, scoring Podaras just before Guzman was tagged out trying to reach third.

Adams, along with Kyle Kasser, went 2 for 4 in the game to pace the Tri-City attack. Both reached base in late innings but the Dust Devils could not get them home.

The road trip over, the Dust Devils return home to Gesa Stadium this coming Tuesday, May 31, to begin a six-game series with the Hillsboro Hops. It’s a Coca-Cola Tuesday, with 21 oz. Coca-Cola products available for $2.

You can listen to the game at dustdevilsbaseball.com or on the MiLB First Pitch app. The King Beverage Budweiser Pregame Show will begin at 6:15 p.m., with first pitch scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
