Two four-run innings for the Wilson Warbirds carried them over the Hill City Howlers, 8-4, on Thursday.
Four spots in the third and the seventh accounted for all of the scoring for Wilson. However, Harrison Ruiz pitched well in his Hill City debut, throwing two innings of shut-out baseball, striking out two late in the ballgame.
Jonathan Martinez continued to cause problems for the Warbirds. In the second inning, he led off the frame with a walk, stole second, advanced to third on a groundout, before scoring on a sacrifice fly to give Hill City the early lead.
Wilson came roaring back in the third inning as five straight reached with outs in the inning, putting four on the board. Two walks followed by a trio of doubles from Brady Ebel, Juan Ortuño, and Brailyn Antunez put them up 4-1.
Hill City responded quickly in the bottom of the frame, putting three on the board for themselves. After two runners reached to open up the inning, Dauri Fernandez blasted his fourth home run of the season to tie the game at four.
The Warbirds erupted in the seventh inning, roughing up Manuel Osorio in his debut. Back-to-back home runs from Antunez and Rylan Mills started the scoring. Then, a wild pitch and an error allowed two more to come home, putting Wilson up 8-4.
Andrew Healy shut down the Howlers for the final five innings of baseball, not allowing a run and limiting baserunners, earning him his fourth win of the season.
Hill City and Wilson square off again on Friday night at City Stadium with first pitch scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Tickets are available at hchowlers.com.
