North Little Rock, AR-The Arkansas Travelers rode a stellar pitching performance from Dylan Unsworth and a four run first inning to a 7-1 victory over the Midland RockHounds on Tuesday night at Dickey-Stephens Park.
Unsworth came out blazing on the mound, retiring the first eight RockHounds batters of the night. The South African born right-hander struck out six on the evening including three in the fourth inning to work around a leadoff triple. For the game, he totaled 7.1 innings, a season-high and was charged with one run on six hits.
The offense came early for the Travs as they put up four runs in the opening inning. A dropped popup put Ian Miller on base to start things and he promptly stole second. Two hitters later Chuck Taylor doubled him home to open the scoring. Kyle Waldrop and Tyler Marlette would follow with hits to get Taylor across the plate and then with two out, Kyle Petty doubled off the right field fence to score a pair.
Nelson Ward started the second inning with a double and then following Ian Miller's bunt single, scored on Gianfranco Wawoe's infield hit. They would tack on a pair more in the fifth on an RBI single by Keury De La Cruz and a single from Petty, his third RBI of the game.
Miller, Waldrop and Petty all had multi-hit games for Arkansas with Miller also swiping a pair of bases.
Unsworth earned the win and improved his record to 2-4 on the season. Midland starter Corey Walter took the loss and fell to 2-1.
The Travs and RockHounds meet again on Wednesday night on a $1 hot dog night at Dickey-Stephens Park. The game will also be broadcast on the Sports Animal 920, the First Pitch App, TuneIn radio and milb.tv.
