PEARL, MS – The Atlanta Braves selected the contract of Mississippi Braves infielder Vaughn Grissom on Wednesday morning. The 21-year-old is set to make his major league debut this evening against Boston, becoming the 23rd M-Braves player to be promoted directly to Atlanta and 157th overall to make their MLB debut.
Grissom, Atlanta’s top prospect, played 22 games for the M-Braves this season. He recorded a hit in 19 of 22 games, batting .363 with three home runs, 12 RBI and seven stolen bases.
Grissom was promoted to Mississippi from High-A Rome on July 12. Since his promotion to the M-Braves, Grissom’s 33 hits led the Southern League. In 74 games for Rome this season, the shortstop slashed .312/.404/.487 with 11 home runs, 55 RBI and 20 stolen bases.
By being promoted directly to Atlanta from Mississippi, Grissom joins a special group. The list includes Brian McCann, Jeff Francoeur, Jarrod Saltalamacchia, Dansby Swanson, and Max Fried.
Grissom will join Michael Harris II, who was promoted directly to Atlanta from Mississippi on May 28. Harris II is hitting .288 with 10 home runs, 34 RBI and 12 stolen bases in 64 games for Atlanta.
The M-Braves continue their series tonight in Tennessee at 6:15 pm CT against the Smokes. The club will return to Trustmark Park on Tuesday, August 16 for a six-game home series against Pensacola.
