Viñeros Vanquish Everett, Take Series

PASCO – A five-run 1^st inning set the foundation Sunday night for the Tri-City Dust Devils (25-29 2H, 60-60), and late runs salted away an 8-3 victory over the Everett AquaSox (27-27 2H, 60-60) at Gesa Stadium that clinched the home nine’s series win.

Playing as Viñeros de Tri-City for the final time in 2026, the team found itself in a 2-0 hole coming to their first at-bat. Continuing a trend from the previous night the squad delivered two-out hits with runners aboard, beginning with LF Kevyn Castillo’s RBI single that scored RF Jorge Ruiz to cut the AquaSox lead in half. After 3B Harold Coll walked to load the bases, an errant pickoff throw to get him at first rolled down the right field line. That allowed two runners, SS Kendrey Maduro and Castillo, to score and give Tri-City a 3-2 lead. The struggles of Everett starter Walter Ford (0-11) continued with a walk of 1B Slate Alford, who scored with Coll on a two-run double by 2B Capri Ortiz to finish up the five-spot.

To his credit, Ford settled into the game and got through five innings, holding the Dust Devils off the scoreboard for the remainder of his outing. Tri-City starter Chase Shores managed a scoreless top of the 2^nd but was pulled after throwing 59 pitches, with his struggles with the strike zone causing an early exit. That brought lefty Francis Texido (4-6), who threw three scoreless and hitless innings to stop Everett’s offense in its tracks and get the contest to official game status.

The teams would not score until the 7^th inning, when each put up a run. The AquaSox tally came on a wild pitch bouncing far enough away from the plate for SS Axel Sanchez to score from second. The Dust Devils response came on a two-out RBI single by Maduro, who plated CF Hayden Alvarez to push the lead to 6-3. An inning later Castillo launched a long home run over the right field wall to lead off the 8^th, his second in as many nights. Coll later walked and advanced to second on a hit by C Alberto Rios. A throwing error ending in the Everett dugout on the same play brought Coll in for the final run of the night.

Reliever Brady Stuart picked up his first professional save, retiring the final six batters in order to finish off the ballgame.

DUST DEVILS NOTES

-The win closed the book on the alternate identities of the Dust Devils taking the field in the 2026 season. Viñeros de Tri-City finished a perfect 5-0 on the year, with four wins coming against Everett (the other against Vancouver). The Columbia River Rooster Tails had a tougher campaign, going 1-4 in their five contests.

-Hayden Alvarez went 2-for-5, scoring a run. The 19-year-old outfielder and #3 Angels prospect (according to MLB Pipeline) holds an 8-game hit streak and has reached base in all 11 games he has played for Tri-City.

-The Dust Devils gained on Vancouver in the race for the Second Half playoff spot, getting back to five games behind the C’s with 12 games remaining via Eugene’s 6-5 win over Vancouver at PK Park Sunday afternoon. The Hillsboro Hops clinched a road series win by beating Spokane 14-6 at Avista Stadium, also on Sunday afternoon.

RUN TO THE HILLS…BORO

Tri-City hits the road for the final time in the 2026 regular season this coming week for a six-game series with the Hillsboro Hops at Hops Ballpark. The series opener comes at 6:35 p.m. Tuesday night, August 25, with the 6:35 p.m. game time holding through Friday, August 28. August 29’s Saturday contest again pays tribute to the Portland metro area code with a 5:03 p.m. start, and a 1:05 p.m. Sunday afternoon matinee closes out the series on August 30. Pitching matchups have not been announced.
