Bees hold Loons to just three hits in 5-2 win

(Midland, MI) - Bees' pitching held the Great Lakes Loons (9-16) to just three hits as the Burlington Bees (9-12) kicked off a six-game road trip with a 5-2 win on Tuesday night at Dow Diamond.

Coming into Tuesday night's game, the Bees' offense scored just three runs in their last 28 innings. Loons' starting pitcher A.J. Alexy, walked the first batter he faced, issuing a leadoff walk to Jahmai Jones. After getting Brennon Lund to fly out, Alexy walked Jack Kruger. With two outs, Alexy issued his third walk of the inning, loading the bases. Brennan Morgan put the Bees on top, lacing a single to left, scoring both Jones and Kruger, giving the Bees a 2-0 lead.
The Bees doubled their lead in the third. With one out, Jordan Zimmerman knocked a single up the middle. After back-to-back walks loaded the bases, Roberto Baldoquin singled to left, scoring both Zimmerman and Sam McDonnell, upping the Bees' lead to 4-0.
Bees' starter Andrew Vinson threw five scoreless innings, allowing just two hits. The Bees added to their lead in the sixth inning. Jahmai Jones knocked a double to right with one out and then came home to score on a two-out single from Jack Kruger, extending the lead to 5-0.
Great Lakes got to the Bees' bullpen in the bottom half of the sixth inning. With runners at second and third and one out, Keibert Ruiz reached on an infield single and a throwing error, scoring two runs, cutting the Bees' lead to 5-2.
Nathan Bates and Samil De Los Santos combined to throw three scoreless innings, helping secure the Bees 5-2 win. Despire tying a season high by issuing eight walks, Bees' pitchers held the Loons to just three hits and two runs. Vinson (2-2) earned the win for the Bees while A.J. Alexy (0-1) was charged with the loss. De Los Santos (2) picked up the save with a 1-2-3 ninth inning.
