PASCO, WA – The Canadians returned to form in a 9-1 win over the Tri-City Dust Devils [Angels] that was reminiscent of their dominance from May through mid-August and guaranteed at least a series split as they prepare to wrap up the regular season tomorrow night.

After two scoreless innings, the C’s took the lead for good with three two-out runs in the third. Nick Goodwin sparked the rally with a one-out double off the centerfield wall then went to third on a groundout. That set up an RBI single from Peyton Williams to make it 1-0, but Vancouver wasn’t done. Cade Doughty worked a walk then Lyle Lin and Glenn Santiago followed with consecutive run-scoring knocks to put the Canadians ahead 3-0.

Ryan Jennings returned from the Injured List and put up two zeroes in his first start since June 21. Anders Tolhurst (W, 4-1) followed with three scoreless frames from the third through the fifth that featured two hits, a walk and four punch outs.

Three more two-out runs in the fifth doubled the Vancouver lead. With runners at first and second and two outs, Santiago singled again to bring home a run and Estiven Machado came next with a two-RBI hit that made it 6-0.

The C’s manufactured a run without a hit in the sixth, but the Dust Devils tallied an unearned run in the bottom of the frame to spoil the shutout. That was the only blemish on the night for Cooper Benson, who struck out a single-game-high seven batters over three innings of dominant relief.

Williams and Doughty hit back-to-back homers – the third time the C’s have hit consecutive jacks this year – in the ninth to put the Canadians up 9-1 and Ryan Boyer got the last three outs to secure the win.

Eight of nine starters reached base and six had a hit. Williams set the pace with three hits – finishing a triple shy of the cycle – three runs scored and two RBI. Doughty had six total bases and Santiago went 3-for-4 with a run scored, two RBI and a walk.

It’s Rafael Sanchez on the mound for Vancouver in the regular season final tomorrow night at 6:30 p.m. opposite Tri-City’s Keythel Key. Coverage is available on the Sportsnet Radio Network.
