Voit Shines with Four Hits, First Double-A Homer in Series Finale Victory Over Reading

READING, Pa. – Mitch Voit tallied a four-hit night with five runs batted in as the Binghamton Rumble Ponies (11-22) topped the Reading Fightin Phils (20-13), 9-3 on Sunday night at FirstEnergy Stadium. Reading took the six-game series, 4-2.

Right-hander Reese Dutton (L, 1-1) toed the rubber for his first Double-A start, and on the first pitch of the night, shortstop Mitch Voute clubbed a lead-off home run, for his first Double-A big fly.

Voit chalked up his four-hit game, with three extra-base hits, and was a triple shy of the cycle. The last Binghamton hitter to hit for the cycle was Jeff McNeil on May 13, 2018, against the Portland Sea Dogs.

Binghamton left-hander Felipe De La Cruz made his first start of 2026 and tossed 2.0 scoreless and hitless innings after he surrendered two walks in the first inning.

The Rumble Ponies added a run in the second inning off of Dutton to make it 2-0, capitalizing on two errors by Reading shortstop Bryan Rincon.

Third baseman Billy Amick drew a leadoff walk and scored the inning's only run on a ground ball by designated hitter Kevin Parada. Rincon fielded the ball and recorded the force out at second, but his throw to first sailed wide for an error, allowing Amick to come home.

Then, in the top half of the fourth inning, Binghamton extended its lead to 5-0. Left fielder Matt Rudick and second baseman Wyatt Young both walked with one out to set up Voit, who delivered a two-run double. Voit has six extra-base hits and 5 RBIs over his first six games.

Right-hander Douglas Orellana (W, 8-3) threw a perfect third inning before allowing two runs in the fourth inning as Reading cut the Binghamton lead to 5-2. Center fielder Pedro León singled and right fielder Raylin Heredia doubled to lead off the frame. First baseman Alex Binelas brought in the first run on a groundout as third baseman Aroon Escobar delivered an RBI single to bring in the second run.

Reading pulled within two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to make it 5-3. Left fielder Raider Tello laced a leadoff single off right-hander Brendan Girton. Then, with the bases loaded and two outs, Binelas walked in Tello to score a run. Girton walked two batters over an inning and surrendered one run.

The Fightin Phils had a prime chance in the bottom of the seventh inning against right-hander Saul Garcia. Rincon singled, Leon walked, and then Heredia got them to second and third base on a fly out. Binelas followed, but Garcia struck him out to end the frame and cashed in 2.0 scoreless innings.

Reading left-hander Mavis Graves struck out five batters over 2.0 innings and surrendered just one hit to silence the Binghamton offense, but right-hander Daniel Harper came in for Reading in the eighth inning, and Binghamton tagged him for four runs.

Voit’s big night rolled on as he hammered a two-run double to finish off a four-hit game. It was the third time this year a Binghamton hitter tallied a four-hit game.

Then, Suero followed and belted a two-run home run for his 14th homer of the year and his second of the series to give Binghamton a 9-3 lead.

Binghamton right-hander Carlos Guzman threw a scoreless eighth and ninth innings with two strikeouts to seal the victory.

The Rumble Ponies chalked up three double-digit hit games in the series and have done so in five of their last eight games.

The Rumble Ponies open up a six-game series with the Hartford Yard Goats (Double-A, Colorado Rockies) on Tuesday at Mirabito Stadium. First pitch is set for 6:07 p.m as RHP Channing Austin will take the ball for Binghamton. The game will be broadcast on MiLB.TV, News Radio 1290 AM & 92.1 FM, and on the WNBF News Radio App.
