The Somerset Patriots swept their double header with the New Hampshire Fisher Cats on Saturday, winning the first game 10-2 and winning the second game 3-1.

The back-to-back wins snapped Somerset’s three-game losing streak, giving the Patriots a chance to split the series with the Fisher Cats entering Sunday.

Over both games of the double header, the Patriots out-hit the Fisher Cats 17-9 and out-homered them 3-1. Over their last three games, the Patriots have collected 29 hits and hit seven home runs. The double header sweep marked Somerset’s first since 9/7/22 @HFD.

RHP Trystan Vrieling (6.0 IP, 1 ER, 3 H, 2 BB, 6 K) started the second game of the double header and earned the win for the second straight appearance to start his professional career.

Through two starts this year, Vrieling is now 2-0, holding a 0.82 ERA and 0.82 WHIP with 11.0 IP, 1 ER, 5 H, 4 BB and 12 K.

Vrieling’s 11.0 IP rank second in the Eastern League behind his teammate Zach Messinger (12.0). He also ranks among the league leaders with his 12 K (T-4th), .132 BAA (5th), 0.82 ERA (7th) and 0.82 WHIP (7th).

RHP Kevin Stevens (2.2 IP, 1 ER, 3 H, 4 K) finished out game one of the double header and earned his first professional win.

Now with 5.0 IP over his first two appearances of the season, Stevens has already more than doubled his previous career total in innings pitched. Stevens’ 2.2 IP and 4 K both set career-best marks in his seventh professional game.

RHP Carlos Gomez (1.0 IP, 0 R, 1 K) closed out the second game with a perfect ninth inning to earn his first Double-A save.

The occurrence marks the second time in Wegner’s professional career that he’s homered in back-to-back games, after he last did it in his first two career games on July 29 and July 31, 2023 for the FCL Yankees.

DH Spencer Jones (2-for-3, RBI, 3 R, 2B, BB) made his 2024 season debut for the Patriots, batting leadoff and starting at designated hitter in the first game.
