CHARLESTON, W.Va. (May 26, 2019) - Dean Nevarez uncorked an eighth-inning grand slam and worked a walk-off walk in the 10th to propel West Virginia to a 10-9 win in 10 innings over the Lexington Legends Sunday afternoon at Appalachian Power Park.
West Virginia (24-25) had struggled against the Lexington (23-26) bullpen until the eighth, when the Power loaded the bases on two base hits and a walk for Nevarez. The Power backstop then crushed a ball 411 feet over the left-field wall, clearing the bases and bringing West Virginia back within a run at 9-8.

Sal Biasi (3-1) entered in the ninth and completed the shutdown inning to keep it a one-run game heading into the bottom of the inning. With one out, Jarred Kelenic blasted his tenth homer of the season on the first pitch he saw to tie the game at nine and ultimately send it to extra innings.
Lexington loaded the bases with one out in the top of the tenth, but Biasi buckled down and fanned the next two hitters to keep the game squared up heading into the home half. In the bottom of the tenth, with Bobby Honeyman sitting at second, the Legends decided to intentionally walk J.R. Davis to set up a force play at any bag. A wild pitch from reliever Daniel James (3-1) advanced both runners and forced the Legends to intentionally walk Johnny Slater to load the bases.
For the second straight at-bat, Nevarez stepped in with the bases loaded and was able to work the count full before finishing off his five-RBI day with a walk to win it for the Power.
Damon Casetta-Stubbs began his outing with a perfect first and West Virginia struck with a run in the bottom of the inning off a Davis RBI fielder's choice to score Ryan Ramiz. Lexington would get that run back quickly, as they tallied one in the second and two in the third to take a 3-1 lead over the Power.
Honeyman and Davis each singled in the bottom of the fourth to put runners on for Charlie McConnell, who lifted a ball over the wall in left-center field to thrust West Virginia to a 4-3 lead in the fourth.
Lexington scored two more runs in the fifth on three base hits to take a 5-4 lead, and ultimately brought Casetta-Stubbs' day to a close. Devin Sweet entered out of the pen and delivered a quick inning in the sixth thanks to a strong throw from Slater to gun down Chase Vallot at the plate.
Sweet ran into some trouble in the seventh, as a two-run double from Reed Rohlman and a two-run bomb from Nick Hutchins busted the score open to a 9-4 Lexington advantage.
