DES MOINES, IA — The Buffalo Bisons defeated the Iowa Cubs 6-5 on Saturday night from Principal Park to take a three-games-to-two series lead in this six-game set.

Andrew Moore opened things up with two shutout innings, allowing just one baserunner over that span. The Herd gave him an early lead in the third off an RBI single by Otto López, and an RBI double by Nick Podkul in the fourth put the Herd up 2-0.

The I-Cubs would tie it in the bottom half when Nick Allgeyer gave up a two-run double to Nelson Maldonado, but after a shutout inning of relief by Eric Yardley, the Herd would re-take the lead for good in the sixth.

Logan Warmoth hit a booming two-run homer to centerfield, before an RBI double by Spencer Horwitz gave the Herd a 5-2 lead. Chavez Young manufactured another run in the seventh after singling and advancing to second on a wild pitch, before stealing third and eventually scoring on a second wild pitch.

Brandon Eisert followed Yardley with a clean inning of his own, before Joe Biagini came on in the seventh and had a 1-2-3 frame.

The I-Cubs made it a one-run game by scoring three runs off Derek Holland in the eighth, who lasted just 0.2 innings before Trent Thornton came on to stop the bleeding. Thornton stuck around for the ninth and retired the side to complete the four-out save and secure the win.

The Bisons will look to win the series in tomorrow’s finale, which will also serve as the final game before the All-Star break which begins on Monday. First pitch is set for 2:08 p.m. EST.
