ROUND ROCK, Texas -Round Rock Express (14-19) starting pitcher RHP Allen Webster (2-2, 6.34) turned in his best start of the season on Tuesday night, fueling the E-Train to a 3-1 win over the Oklahoma City Dodgers (16-15).
Webster went seven innings deep, holding OKC to just one run on four hits. He struck out six while walking just two, earning his second straight win in the process. Dodgers starter RHP Wilmer Font (2-3, 4.89) suffered the loss after allowing two runs on four hits in 5.1 innings on the hill.
For the fourth time in this series, the Dodgers scored the game's first run. DH Brett Eibner notched a two-out single in the second inning. 3B Max Muncy followed up with another single. During the next plate appearance, Muncy got caught in a rundown between first and second base. As SS Josh Wilson and 1B Ronald Guzmán worked to retire Muncy, Eibner stole home to put the visitors up 1-0.
Wilson responded with one swing of the bat in the bottom of the frame. DH Brett Nicholas singled, then Wilson sent a towering shot over the fence in left field, giving the Express a 2-1 edge. The blast marked Round Rock's first homer since April 30.
Webster then faced just two over the minimum for the next five innings. Only once did the Dodgers put a runner into scoring position in the Webster's final five frames. Nicholas gave the E-Train some breathing room in the seventh with a solo home run that crashed into the visitor's bullpen in right-center field.
Round Rock RHP Preston Claiborne emerged for the ninth inning, working around a pair of hits to notch his fourth save of the season. All three outs recorded by the closer came via strikeout.
After a league-wide off-day on Wednesday, the Express head west for an eight-game roadtrip against the Tacoma Rainiers and Reno Aces.
