West Virginia Wins Late Night of Rainy Baseball

Williamsport, Pa. - The Williamsport Crosscutters lost a late night of baseball against the West Virginia Black Bears 6-2 on Friday at Bowman Field. The game was held up by a rain delay lasting two hours and seven minutes and the final out was not recorded until 11:47 p.m. The Cutters were still able to get in their post-game fireworks show as scheduled.

Hunter Hearn socked his first career professional home-run on a shot to left to give the Cutters a 2-0 lead in the second inning. In the ninth he showed off is impressive throwing arm by firing out a player trying to tag up and score.

Luis Ramirez started for Williamsport (4-17) and was great firing four innings of two-hit shutout ball with no walks and five strikeouts.
West Virginia (12-9) scored four runs in the sixth to overcome the early 2-0 deficit. Jared Triolo hit a solo home-run in the eighth inning for the Black Bears.
After Hearn's home run, the Cutters held the 2-0 advantage until the sixth but an infield single and bunt hit against Rafael Carvajal sparked a four-run rally for the Black Bears. Jared Triolo and Brett Kinneman hit back-to-back RBI singles to tie the score at 2-2. A couple batters later it was Luke Mangieri with a two-run double to the right field corner to give the visitors a 4-2 lead. 
After a rain delay of two hours and seven minutes, play resumed with the Crosscutters putting two men on base in the bottom of the sixth in singles McCarthy Tatum and Juan Aparicio.
Kendall Simmons appeared to have potentially given the Cutters the lead with his blast to left but his bid for a three-run homer was just barely foul.
Triolo hit his second home run of the season to lead off the eighth against Omar Maldonado for a 5-2 lead. And Mangieri doubled in the ninth and later scored on a Victor Ngope single. Juan Aparicio picked off a runner at first in that inning and then later applied a fine swipe-tag on a stunner runner tagging up from third who was thrown out on Hearn's impressive play in left.

With the Black Bears having just taken a 4-2 lead with a four-run rally in the sixth, the skies opened up and the field was covered for a lengthy rain delay that began at 8:39 p.m. and lasted until 10:46 p.m. when play resumed in the bottom of the sixth.

West Virginia won by a 6-2 score for a second consecutive evening. The Crosscutters have lost four in a row.

The Crosscutters wrap up their six-game homestand on Saturday night with left-hander Junior Tejada the projected starter.
