LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – Allan Winans racked up 10 strikeouts and the Gwinnett Stripers’ (48-58) cashed in with three insurance runs in the eighth to turn a pitcher’s duel into a comfortable 5-1 win over the Indianapolis Indians (50-56) on Saturday evening at Coolray Field.

Decisive Plays: Daniel Robertson crushed a solo home run (1) in the fifth inning to break a scoreless tie. The Indians responded quickly to tie it at 1-1on a Ji Hwan Bae solo homer (1) on the first pitch of the sixth inning. The Stripers retook the lead in the home half with an RBI single from Jesus Aguilar. A two-run double from Braden Shewmake capped a three-run eighth that sealed a 5-1 win for Gwinnett.

Key Contributors: Winans (W, 8-3) allowed one run on four hits, walked two, and struck out 10 in his team-leading ninth quality start of the year. Robertson (1-for-3, homer, RBI) put the Stripers on the board with the first homer of his Gwinnett career, while Shewmake (1-for-4, double, 2 RBIs) had his second extra-base hit of the series. Rehabbing Atlanta Braves left-hander Dylan Lee (H, 1) pitched a perfect eighth. Bae (1-for-3, homer, RBI) drove in the only run for the Indians.

Noteworthy: Winans’ 10-strikeout performance was the second of his career, with the previous time occurring on September 13, 2022 (Double-A Mississippi vs. Montgomery). It was also the first time a Stripers pitcher has reached double-digit strikeouts in 2023. In his final at-bat, Vaughn Grissom became the sixth player in Gwinnett history to reach an on-base streak of 30 games with a two-out single.
