Winston-Salem Drops Game One Against Bowling Green, 10-2

WINSTON-SALEM, NC (August 1st, 2023) – The Winston-Salem Dash fell in game one of a six-game series against the Bowling Green Hot Rods, 10-2, Tuesday night at Truist Stadium in front of 2,311 fans.

Bowling Green (49-43) struck immediately in the top of the first. Shane Sasaski tripled to lead off the game and scored on a wild pitch giving the visitors an early 1-0 lead.

Winston-Salem (45-48) went down quickly in the bottom half and the Hot Rods added another run in the second after Dash starter Johan Dominguez walked in a run making it 2-0. In the third, Bowling Green put up a five spot after Kamren James hit a three-run homer to straightaway right, and the Dash trailed 7-0 heading to the bottom of the third.

The Dash got on the board in the third after Tim Elko singled home a run cutting the deficit to six, 7-1, but that was all Winston-Salem found at the plate.

After Dominguez lasted two innings and the Dash used two arms to get through the third, Andrew Dalquist was the fourth arm in for Winston-Salem and was dominant. The Redondo Beach, California native allowed only three baserunners across four innings, and punched out four Hot Rods, eating up innings for manager Guillermo Quiroz.

In the bottom of the seventh, the Dash got a run back. Wilfred Veras picked up his team leading 63rd RBI on a single back up the middle making it a five-run game, 7-2. Bowling Green tacked on three insurance runs in the ninth and took game one, 10-2.

Keyshawn Askew (8-6) picked up the win for Bowling Green while Dominguez (0-2) was tabbed with the loss.

Winston-Salem and Bowling Green meet for game two on Wednesday. First pitch is slated for 7 p.m. from Truist Stadium.
