Corpus Christi, TX - The Cardinals won their first extra-innings game of the year, shutting out the Corpus Christi Hooks for a 4-0 victory in 10 innings before 4,355 fans at Whataburger Field on Thursday night.

Cardinals RHP Jake Woodford and Hooks RHP Corbin Martin dueled back and forth throughout their stellar starts. Woodford matched a career high with 8.0 scoreless innings, allowing just six hits and two walks while striking out five. He retired his final five batters in a row, including a 1-2-3 final inning in the bottom of the eighth. Martin started his night with four perfect frames and ended with 7.2 scoreless stanzas, scattering just two hits while striking out nine.

Neither side struck in the ninth, before the Cardinals (24-23) swung in front in the top of the 10th. LF Victor Roache started the inning as the automatic runner at second base and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt from 3B Evan Mendoza, who also reached on a throwing error by RHP Erasmo Pinales (L, 0-2). With runners at the corners, C Chris Chinea cracked the scoreless tie with an RBI single to left field. A base hit by RF Granden Goetzman loaded the bases, before 1B Stefan Trosclair brought in Mendoza with an RBI fielder's choice. A base hit by DH Luke Dykstra loaded them up again and led to RHP Carlos Sierra entering the contest. Sierra navigated the Hooks (27-20) out of the frame, but not before 2B Tommy Edman and CF Lane Thomas both pitched in with RBI singles, opening the Cardinals lead to 4-0.

RHP Landon Beck (W, 2-0) worked around the automatic runner and a two-out single in a scoreless bottom of the 10th, slamming the door in the Cardinals 4-0 shutout win in 10 frames.
