The Colorado Springs Sky Sox have announced that RHP Brandon Woodruff and infielder Garrett Cooper have been named the Pitcher and Player of the Month, respectively, for the month of April.

Leading a pitching staff that sits among the top-three units in terms of Earned Run Average, Woodruff leads the team with four wins in his four April starts. The native of Booneville, Miss., finished 4-0 with a 1.61 ERA in four starts, allowing four earned runs in 22 1/3 innings pitched. 2016's Minor League Baseball leader in strikeouts recorded 17 in his first month in Triple-A, including five punchouts April 14 at Memphis and April 24 against Nashville. Through the season's first month, opposing batters managed to hit just .200 against the No. 7 prospect in the Brewers' system, according to Baseball America.

Cooper, meanwhile, has been a consistent presence in the middle of a potent Sky Sox offensive lineup. In 19 games in April, Cooper recorded a .320 average, reaching safely via 24 hits and a team-high 21 RBIs. The first baseman has been the No. 4 hitter in all but one Sox game this season and has recorded eight extra-base hits, including eight doubles that puts him in a tie for fourth place in the Pacific Coast League. To start his 2017 campaign, Cooper manufactured a 12-game hitting streak, which included a four-hit, four-RBI night April 13 in Memphis.
