STATEN ISLAND-The Yankees came back from a three-run deficit to take a lead at one point, but could not hold on as the Brooklyn Cyclones defeated Staten Island 7-4 on Monday night at Richmond County Bank Ballpark.
The Cyclones jumped out to a 3-0 lead on Yankees starter Juan DePaula behind a two-run home run by Ross Adolph who had three RBIs in the game.
However, Staten Island would rally behind a solo home run from Junior Soto and three two out hits in the four capped off by an RBI double by Jackson Thoreson that gave the Yankees the lead.
Soto has a career night going 3-4 with a home run and two RBIs. That home run was his first with Staten Island.
Brooklyn would go on to score runs in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings to rebuild their three run advantage. The big blow came off the bat of Jose Medina who drove in two runs with a two out double in the eighth.
Billy Oxford picked up the win for Brooklyn and Brooks Kriske was the tough luck loser despite only allowing one run combined in two bases loaded and no out situations. Yeudy Colon picked up the two inning save to finish the game.
The Yankees and Cyclones are back in action tomorrow night at MCU Park in the rubber game of this three-game set. First pitch is scheduled for 7p.m.
