Yard Goats Blast Three Home Runs in Loss

Portland, Maine- Hartford sluggers Kyle Datres, Jordan Beck and Grant Lavigne each hit solo home runs but it was not enough in a 16-4 loss to the Portland Sea Dogs on Wednesday night at Hadlock Field in Portland, Maine. Datres gave the Yard Goats a 1-0 lead with his 13^th home run in the second inning off Boston Red Sox righty Zach Kelly, who started for Portland on a MLB rehab assignment. Beck hit his seventh in the fourth inning, and Grant Lavigne connected on his 17^th homer in the sixth inning. Sea Dogs catcher Nathan Hickey had a pair of doubles, drove in four runs and scored three times.

The Yard Goats took a 1-0 in the second inning as Kyle Datres cranked a solo home run off Red Sox right hander Zack Kelly who started for the Sea Dogs. It was Datres’ 13^th home run this season and traveled 417 feet over the wall in right center field.

The Sea Dogs responded with a home run of their own. Tyler Dearden hit a two-run homer in the second inning off Yard Goats starter Case Williams to give Portland a 2-1 lead.

Portland got some breathing room in the third inning with a five-run frame. After a walk and a single to set the table, Nathan Hickey cracked a two-run double, giving Portland a 4-1 lead. Later in the inning, Alex Binealas contributed with a two-run double as well to make it 6-1. Benelas scored on a throwing error after stealing third base and it was 7-1 after three innings.

The Red Sox affiliate added four more runs in the fifth inning and a run in the seventh. Roman Anthony had a two RBI double in the fifth and Chase Meidroth had an RBI single.

The Yard Goats will continue their six-game road trip against the Boston Red Sox affiliate, the Portland Sea Dogs, at Hadlock Field in Portland, Maine on Thursday night at 6:00 PM. RHP Wikelman Gonzalez will start for the Yard Goats and RHP Isaac Coffey will pitch for the Sea Dogs. The game will be broadcast on AM 1410, FM 100.9 and on the iheart radio app.
