Reading, PA – Yard Goats DH Hunter Goodman blasted his Eastern League leading 4thhome run of the season but the Hartford Yard Goats (3-3) fell to the Reading Fightin Phils (1-5) by the score of 4-2 on Thursday night at FirstEnergy Stadium in Reading, Pennsylvania. The loss snapped the Yard Goats three-game win streak. Fightins 1B Carlos De La Cruz belted a two-run homer to give Reading a 2-1 lead in the fourth inning before Goodman tied the game in the sixth inning. Hartford starter Case Williams (LP) pitched well into the sixth inning and allowed just three runs on six hits and registered three strikeouts. SS Julio Carreras extended his hit-streak to six consecutive games and Zac Veen had his five-game hitting streak come to an end.

The Yard Goats scored the first run of the game in the fourth inning as Colin Simpson doubled home Warming Bernabel for a 1-0 lead. Reading took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the inning on De La Cruz’ two-run homer.

Hartford tied the game on a long home run to left field by Hunter Goodman in the sixth inning off reliever Taylor Lehman. Again, the Fightins answered in the home side of the frame. Reading scored the go-ahead run on Cam Cannon’s RBI single, scoring Matthew Koon who doubled in the previous at-bat. Reading added an insurance run in the 8th inning off reliever Jared Biddy. Kroon drove in McCarty Tatum with a single to right field to make it 4-2.

Reading’s bullpen was solid and surrendered just one run over the final five innings for its first win of the season. Brett Schultz, Zach Linginfelter, and Max Kuhns retired 11 of the final 12 Yard Goats batters of the game.

The Yard Goats continue the road trip on Friday night at 6:45 PM with RHP Andrew Quezada starting for the Yard Goats and RHP Tyler Phillips starting for the Fightin Phils. The game can be heard on AM 1410 WPOP, FM 100.9 and the iheart radio app. The Yard Goats return to Dunkin’ Park on Tuesday, April 18th (7:10 PM) to host the New York Mets affiliate, the Binghamton Rumble Ponies.
