Yard Goats Lose Slugfest vs Squirrels

Hartford, CT- The Richmond Flying Squirrels hit eight homers en route to a 17-10 victory over the Hartford Yard Goats on Thursday night at Dunkin’ Park. The Giants affiliate hit a home run in each of the first seven innings, and Carter Aldrete led the hit parade with a three-homer game. The Yard Goats scored 10 of the final 11 runs of the game and Grant Lavigne homered for the second straight game. The game featured 27 runs, 25 hits, including nine home runs, and 361 pitches.

Ismael Munguia led off the game for the Flying Squirrels with a home run off Yard Goats starter Carson Palmquist. The right-hander then struck out three of the next four batters. Richmond then put together a five-run second inning, highlighted by a solo homer by Logan Wyatt, and a grand slam home run by Will Wilson. All three outs that inning were strikeouts by Palmquist.

Richmond ran out to a 16-0 lead as Carter Aldrete homered in the third, fourth and sixth innings, while Sean Roby and Victor Bericoto went deep in the fifth and seventh. The Flying Squirrels hit at least one home run in each of the first seven innings.

The Yard Goats scored three runs in the sixth inning on RBI hits by Kyle Datres and Yanquiel Fernandez. Hartford put together a six-run seventh inning with RBI singles by Niko Decolati, Sterlin Thompson, Grant Lavigne and a two-run double by Yanquiel Fernandez. Grant Lavine homered in the 9^th inning, his 16^th of the season.

The Yard Goats continue a 13-game homestand on Friday evening (7:10 PM) against the Richmond Flying Squirrels (San Francisco Giants affiliate). RHP Andrew Quezada will start for the Yard Goats and LHP Nick Zawck will pitch for the Flying Squirrels. The game will be broadcast on AM 1410, FM 100.9 and on the iheart radio app.
