The Tri-City Dust Devils dropped Game One of the Northwest League Championship Series to the Hillsboro Hops 5-3 on Saturday night at Ron Tonkin Field. The Dust Devils suffered the loss after surrendering a three-run walk-off home run to Andy Yerzy in the bottom of the ninth inning.
Tri-City never trailed in the game until Yerzy's fateful blast. Starting pitcher Ignacio Feliz delivered one of the best outings for the team this season. Feliz allowed only one hit and did not issue a single walk in six scoreless innings of work. The Dust Devils entered the bottom of the ninth looking to close out the game with a two-run lead, but command issues proved costly. A hit batter and two walks loaded the bases for the Hops. The free passes set up the opportunity for Yerzy to hit the three-run walk-off blast with two outs.
The Dust Devils will look to bounce back on Sunday. Tri-City will send right-hander Connor Lehmann to the mound. The Hops will counter with left-hander Blake Walston. After playing the first two games in Hillsboro the Dust Devils will host Game 3 on Monday and if necessary Game 4 on Tuesday along with Game 5 on Wednesday. First pitch for all games at Gesa Stadium will be at 7:15 pm.
