Gallen, 21, dominated the Northwest Arkansas Naturals in his lone start of the week on Sunday, July 16, helping pace the Cardinals to the 6-0 shutout win. Gallen faced just one batter over the minimum through 7.0 nearly perfect innings, allowing just one base hit with no walks while striking out six. Gallen started his evening with seven straight outs, worked around a single and a fielder's choice in the third inning, and then rattled off 13 more consecutive outs to close his performance.
The Gibbsboro, New Jersey native has gone 2-2 with a 2.35 ERA through five starts with Springfield this season. Gallen's gem on Sunday was his first start back from a two-week stint in AAA-Memphis from 6/26 - 7/7, during which he went 1-1 with a 3.45 ERA through three starts. Selected by St. Louis in the 3rd round of the 2016 June Draft out of the University of North Carolina, Gallen began his first full professional season this year with High-A Palm Beach, going 5-2 with a terrific 1.62 ERA through nine starts.
