Buoyed by the greatest single-game performance in Albuquerque Isotopes history on Saturday, outfielder Zac Veen has been named Pacific Coast League Player of the Week for a second consecutive series, it was announced today by Major League Baseball.
Veen started all six games of the series as the Isotopes took four of six from Sugar Land at home. He was 11-for-23 with two doubles, a triple, four homers and 10 RBI.
Veen led the league in slugging percentage (1.174), OPS (1.730), while tying for first in total bases (27), and tying for second in home runs and RBI.
On Saturday night, Veen went 5-for-5 with three home runs, a double and a triple. He set Isotopes franchise records with five extra-base hits and 17 total bases in a contest. Additionally, it was the 14th three-homer game by an Isotopes player in team history. Veen’s 17 total bases tied for the most in a Minor League game since at least 2005, accomplished on just five other occasions in the timeframe prior to Saturday. He had seven RBI, setting a career-high and coming one short of tying the franchise record. It was the ninth time an Albuquerque player drove in at least seven runs in a contest.
For just the eighth time since 2005, a PCL hitter has claimed back-to-back Player of the Week honors. Veen is the second-straight Isotope to accomplish the feat, as Ryan Ritter won the award in consecutive weeks last May, before also being named PCL Player of the Month.
This marks Veen’s fifth weekly award of his pro career, including winning the honor when he played in the Arizona Fall League after the 2022 campaign. Additionally, he was also named Pacific Coast League Player of the Month in June this year.
It is the fifth weekly nod for an Albuquerque player in 2026, as Cole Carrigg (April 28-May 3) and Charlie Condon (June 23-28) previously garnered recognition for their work at the plate, and Eiberson Castellano was named Pitcher of the Week (June 2-7) in addition to Veen’s exploits.
Veen and the Isotopes will spend this week in Oklahoma City, before returning to Rio Grande Credit Union Field on Tuesday, August 18 to host the Las Vegas Aviators at 6:35 pm, for a Taco Tuesday.
