Spokane, Wash. - Minor League Baseball announced today the end-of-season award winners and All-Star teams for the Northwest League, with Spokane Indians outfielder Zac Veen being selected as the league's top MLB prospect and Most Valuable Player.

The 20-year-old led the NWL in steals (50) and runs (72) despite an early-August promotion to the Double-A Hartford Yard Goats. Veen batted .269 (92-for-342) and ranked among the league's top five in RBI (60), on-base percentage (.368), and OPS (.807).

"Zach is an electric player and it was a pleasure to work with him this past year," said Indians hitting coach Zach Osborne. "He has a great baseball IQ, plays the game the right way, and has fun doing it. I can't wait to see what he accomplishes in the future."

The Port Orange, FL native was selected to compete in the 2022 SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game in Los Angeles on July 16th and finished 2-for-3 with a pair of stolen bases. Veen also appeared in the Arizona Fall League Fall Stars Game on November 6th, reaching base three times and stealing a base in the National League's 9-3 win.

"This award is a testament to his growth as a player this season," said Chris Forbes, Director of Player Development for the Colorado Rockies. "He loves to play baseball - all facets of the game. Cage work, early work, etc. It's always great when players are recognized for their hard work."

The Rockies No. 1 prospect and MLB's No. 23 overall prospect, Veen was originally selected ninth overall in the 2020 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of Spruce Creek High School and is .271 (234-for-865) career hitter in 232 MiLB games. Veen is the third Spokane Indians player in the last four years to take home MVP honors, joining Blaine Crim in 2019 and Curtis Terry in 2018 (the 2020 MiLB season was cancelled due to Covid-19).

Also joining Veen on the Northwest League All-Star team are first baseman Colin Simpson, second baseman Eddy Diaz, and shortstop Julio Carreras. Simpson led the league in batting average (.300), Diaz was second in the NWL in steals (36), and Carreras had the circuit's second-longest hitting streak at 15 games while also leading all of MiLB with 42 doubles.
