July 19, 2016

Omaha Storm Chasers Community Relations Manager Megan Burdek was honored as a Hometown Hero by the Modern Woodmen of American Chapter #8037 for her contributions throughout the Omaha Metro community. Burdek was honored on-field at Werner Park prior to Thurday's game.

"This is an outstanding honor for Megan, and we are thrilled for her to be recognized as a Hometown Hero," said Storm Chasers Team President and General Manager Martie Cordaro. "She has donated countless hours of her time to the local community through a variety of organizations and is very deserving of this award."

Burdek has volunteered in the local community as a mentor with TeamMates, in addition to working with Open Door Mission, RondHeartland Hope Mission, Rebuilding Together Omaha, Keep Omaha Beautiful, Salvation Army, Project Wee Care, MICAH House and WDCCOC.

In her time with the Storm Chasers, the organization set an all-time record by donating $686,137 in 2015, which included a combined 353 player and mascot appearances. The organization's front office staff as a whole also donated 707 hours of community service.

"The Hometown Hero program allows us to thank those who give back to the community while encouraging others to volunteer", said local Modern Woodmen of America volunteer leader Stacia Vawter.

Coordinated by local Modern Woodmen members, the fraternal financial services organization's Summitt chapters, chapters and youth service clubs provide opportunities for members to take part in social and educational activities and volunteer projects to meet local needs.
